Eirik Nikolaisen, Commercial Director at Nordlaks.
Nordlaks has long produced salmon without the use of antibiotics.
Now, this commitment has been confirmed through a third-party certification by Mérieux NutriSciences – making Nordlaks the first salmon producer in Norway to achieve this certification.
– Many customers are concerned about food safety and want assurance that food production does not contribute to antibiotic resistance – either personally or in general, says Eirik Nikolaisen, Commercial Director at Nordlaks.
The certification makes it easier for customers to make informed choices and strengthens documentation in markets where demands for sustainability and food safety are constantly increasing.
– While the use of antibiotics in Norwegian salmon farming is generally close to zero, product labelling in stores requires confirmation by an independent third party, he explains.
The certification is based on a physical audit, sampling, and ongoing control procedures throughout the production. It covers the entire Nordlaks value chain – from live fish to finished product.
– It will be interesting to see if others follow, says Nikolaisen.
