It is with great pleasure that Nordlaks launches our very first sustainability report. Nordlaks’ vision is “We create the future,” and that entails a commitment. It means that we should produce food while also taking care of nature and our basis for life.
“The generations that come after us should have the same opportunity to use the sea as a source of food as we do today. All food production leaves a footprint, but we shall take care of our fish, our nature, and our people,” says CEO Eirik Welde.
Nordlaks has been working on sustainable operations for a long time and is committed to social responsibility and contributing to the local communities we are part of.
“We aim to be among the best in class when it comes to sustainable operations, and we are always looking to improve,” says Welde.
The new sustainability report helps Nordlaks to work systematically with sustainability, in terms of the environment, economy, and social sustainability.
Although the aquaculture industry has evolved significantly over the last decades, there are still challenges. In the sustainability report, you can read about how Nordlaks uses new technology, like the Stingray laser, to remove sea lice in a more gentle manner. You can read about how we work preventatively to avoid disease or how we are working towards our goal of using the entire fish and our focus on electrification. This year, this focus is a main theme. Nordlaks has heavily invested in environmentally friendly energy measures in recent years. Hatcheries, well boats, box factories, and feed barges have all become more environmentally friendly.
“We know that many are concerned about aquaculture, and it’s great that there’s such enthusiasm around such an important industry for Norway. We hope our sustainability reports will provide good information for those who are curious,” says Welde.
